Brigadier General Edmund John Phipps-Hornby, (31 December 1857 – 13 December 1947) was an English military commander and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
==Background==
Phipps-Hornby was born in Lordington House, Hampshire on 31 December 1857, the son of the Admiral of the Fleet Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby, GCB. Admiral Robert Stewart Phipps-Hornby (1866-1956) was a brother.
